Woohoo! Here is our 7th list of kid STEM or STEAM related activities.
For those of you who are reading our blog for the first time, what is STEM or STEAM?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
The great thing about compiling our 7th list of kid STEAM related activities is that you start to train your brain to look out for STEAM teaching opportunities.
Undertaking this 365 day challenge to find, create and share STEAM activities for kids has actually been really beneficial in training me to be more STEAM-oriented as a parent.
Below are our next 121-140 list of suggested STEAM-based kids activities.
If you want to see our previous list of activities, you can check them out here:

We hope that some of these suggestions will help you in your own journey towards creating and finding STEAM kid activities. Please share them with us!
121. Cooking Science
Kitchen play introduces toddlers to cooking life skills. How many of us wished that we could cook better? However there is also a lot of science that goes into cooking. I have started reading a book to help me understand the science of cooking and hopefully, it will not only produce tastier food but also better conversations around science!
122. Coloring & Crayons
We always bring along some paper and crayons with us wherever we go so that we have an easy activity for our kid to do. They are not heavy and can easily fit in pockets too. You will often find them given out for free in kid-friendly places too.
123. Carpet Education
You can make your home a place of learning by choosing educational furniture. Here is a carpet with the months, days, alphabets and seasons.
124. Sweeping Leaves
My toddler has always shown interest in cleaning chores. She is now able to help with the sweeping of leaves in our garden! It’s a big win when you can combine fun with actual housework!
125. Language Learning
I am trying to teach my kid Mandarin Chinese. I am using Post-It notes to put Chinese characters around the house. Here, the word says ‘door’. You can also do this with any other language.
126. Free Drawing
We give tons of praise for everything our toddler produces on paper. Even if it doesn’t look anything minutely like the real thing. Because with practice, encouragement and praise, she will improve. This one’s a drawing of our family. I thought it wasn’t bad.
127. BBQ Skewer
We were at a BBQ recently. My kid was quietly eating the food I handed her. All of us (me and other parents) were impressed when my toddler suddenly showed us her own handmade BBQ skewer. The next time you plan a BBQ, get your kids to help out with the skewers!
128. Rocket Ship
My kid told me she wanted to make a rocket ship from our cutlery. I suggested that she add some rubber bands to her creation and here it is. Even if it doesn’t make sense to you, support their imagination. It makes sense to them.
129. STEAM books for girls
I found this cool STEAM book series that is especially great for girls. Yasmin comes from a multi-generational Pakistani-American family and she goes on a lot of adventures!
130. Scientific Kid Books
We found some awesome STEAM books from our local library for babies & toddlers. Why not start reading to them about Science early?
131. Fly Home
I am one of those weird moms that tries not to kill the fly in the house but wants to trap it so that my toddler and I can observe it in a jar 😂 We gave it some food too.
132. Caterpillar Biology
We found a caterpillar & decided to give it a ‘house’ so we could watch it transform into a butterfly. I found a mason jar and added a netting cover, lined the bottom with tissue paper, added a few leaves from where the caterpillar came from & twigs for the chrysalis to hang on later.
133. Telescope
This is a simple sheet of paper transformed into a ‘telescope’. We searched for things around the house with our ‘telescopes’.
135. Flower Science
My toddler couldn’t seem to grasp the concept that plants drink water from their roots, and not from the petals. I decided to do a science experiment to demonstrate how water travels through plants (capillary action). We filled jars with colored water and left roses in them. After a few days, the petals started to change color.
136. Quality Time
This is a gorgeous view from a paddle boat. It’s a great way to spend one-on-one time with your kid while soaking up some sun.
137. Life Jackets
We found some mini life jackets for kids. I used the chance to explain the importance of learning to swim and water safety.
138. Ducks
Kids love feeding ducks. However, food that we often think is suitable for ducks is not good for them (including bread!) Take time to give a short biology lesson to your child and explain what kinds of food are suitable for ducks (grass, leaves, weeds, seeds, grain etc).
139. Paddle Boat
Paddle boats help to build hand-feet-eye coordination, basic direction & boating skills! You can use this fun activity to explain how the science of buoyancy works too (how the boats can float).
