For most parents and caregivers, it is a daily challenge to find activities for kids and toddlers that will not only engage and amuse them but also increase their STEAM capabilities.
We decided to undertake a #365daychallenge to find or create activities that are STEAM-based for kids and toddlers.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
Since we believe that STEAM subjects are important subjects for kids to learn for jobs of the future, we are sharing this list of STEAM-related kids activities that we will keep updating during our 365 day challenge.
We hope these will inspire you to embark on your own #365daychallenge to engage in STEAM activities with your kids!
1. Mega Bloks
Mega Bloks are great for building, design and creating.
2. Fruit Counting
Get your toddler to tell you how many fruits they want. Get them to count it as you hand it to them one by one.
3. Library Puzzles
We played with puzzles at the public library.
4. Library Books
We borrowed a lot of books from our local library.
5. Admire Trees
We admired the trees on our hike and how tall they were.
6. Toy Picnic
We did a pretend picnic with our soft toys in the house.
7. Food Play
We put together a plate of shredded carrots, chopped apples and seaweed. They were super tasty and colorful when mixed together.
8. Naming Colors
We have a beautiful art supply kit which has crayons, colored marker pens and color pencils. Introduce your toddler to the names of different colors.
9. Name Fruits
Introduce your toddler to the names and colors of fruit. They will love eating it as well as learning.
10. Touch A Tree
We touched the trees on our hike today to feel its grains and texture.
11. Button Creation
Use your random button collection and glue to create shapes and even alphabets.
12. Play Doh Extras
Playdough accessories can extend playdough fun or use cookie cutters and rolling pins for molding and creating shapes.
13. Tortillas
We mixed the tortilla batter, shaped it and watched it cooking.
14. Look for Shapes
We observed the shapes around us today.
15. Chinese New Year Lantern
We stuck a candle into the middle of the lantern, went for a night walk around the neighborhood and played with our shadows.
16. Outdoor Play
We explored our local playground.
17. Baking Muffins
We baked banana muffins together. Our kid enjoyed mixing the batter and filling the baking trays.
18. Foam Shapes
These are great for creating shapes and easy to manipulate for tiny toddler fingers.
19. Fruit Pattern
Let your kid arrange the fruits for dessert.
20. Magnetic Tiles
Magnetic tiles are especially suitable for creating houses and buildings.
