61. History
Museums are a great way to teach our kids about our history. Learning about the difficulties they went through teaches humility and grit. This works even better if you have a story to tell!
62. Special Foam Blocks Play
If you are lucky enough to have a place hosting the gigantic blue Imagination Playground blocks near you, bring your kid to it! They get to build their own kid-sized structures with these huge kid-safe foam blocks.
64. Stencil Crayons
Stencil crayons are great for toddlers as they produce a different effect when they are smudged with fingers.
65. Magnetic Tiles
Magnetic tiles are versatile. They can be combined with other magnetic toys, used on any magnetic surface like your kitchen fridge or just used as simple magnets.
66. Changing lights
This was at a museum. You turned the circles and they produced different lights. You could then create a light pattern!
67. Paint Room
Deepest appreciation & respect for the museum which created this paint room for kids. You can paint on almost anything here including walls & cabinets 😱 I told my kid, ”Paint anywhere you want here but just remember that you can’t do this at home!” Unfortunately, she then proceeded to paint the floor! 😂 I put a stop to that.
69. Dirt Play
Watching your kid play with dirt can be hard but it’s incredibly beneficial and fun for them, especially if you give them old, to-be-discarded kitchen utensils. My kid made mud pies, muffins and cakes. Unfortunately, I was forced to join in a couple of times too.
70. Chalk drawing
Bring out the budding artist in your kid by getting them a chalkboard and chalk. There’s just something so satisfying about drawing with chalk. Maybe it reminds me of school days when the person holding the chalk seemed to hold the power in class (ie. the teacher).
71. Hula Hoops
Hula hoops are great exercise for kids (not to mention adults too). It’s something that you can do together!
72. Baking Muffins
Our kid loves baking (and eating her baking). Here are choc brownie muffins. This was a joint effort between Daddy & daughter. Family baking time is always fun.
73. Painting
Toddlers love painting. As long as you can stomach the cleanup afterwards. Using washable paints make a big difference!
74. Horse-Drawn Carriage
Horse-drawn carriages are super fun for young kids when you can find them. Teach your kids about appreciating the hard work involved (both the horses and the drivers).
75. Candy Shop Visit
If you are silly enough to venture into a candy shop with your kid, you can turn it into an educational experience too. Candy shops are undeniably magical & fascinating. Get your kids to guess what flavors are in the candy, what they are made of or how many are in a jar. Of course, your kid will insist on getting some but at least they learned something. 😂
76. Indian Roti
Making Indian ‘roti’ (bread) is a great activity for kids. Ingredients- flour, water, salt. Grill it in a pan with a sprinkle of oil. Voila! We ate it hot.
77. Marble Run
We made a marble run out of simple materials; toilet rolls, magnets and tape. You can move them around and change the run path as you like because they stick to the fridge. Making this required patience and many test runs but it was good for my toddler to watch me persevere through multiple failures (it felt like a 107 test runs). Plus, once it worked, it was huge fun.
78. Baking Soda Veges
We soaked veges in baking soda to remove the pesticides.
79. Sea Urchin
Fancy seeing a sea urchin in this aquarium! If you look closely, there are a few neon blue dots on its body! Beautiful Biology.
80. Lights
Teach your kids to look up at the ceiling lights around them. Many of them have different shapes and some are really creative.
