221. Easter Egg Hunt
Easter egg hunts are not only fun, but also a good time to teach toddlers about counting, patience and sharing.
222. Box Castle
If you have a lot of cardboard boxes around the house, your kid can use their creativity to turn the cardboard box into something else. Daddy and our kid made this castle; complete with a drawbridge and windows. It created a lot of fun play times.
223. Calm/ Glitter Bottle
Calm bottles are a tool to help kids calm down or soothe themselves. These ones are made with glue, hot water, glitter powder and paint. Kids shake them when they are upset and then watch the glitter settle down while taking deep breaths.
224. Pony Play
We visited a small animal petting zoo. If you visit a petting zoo, find out if you can bring carrots, celery or apples as they might allow you to feed the animals.
225. Sheep Play
Sheep are especially gentle animals that are great with kids. You can also tell them about how sheep wool needs to be sheared in summer and it, in turn, is used to make useful products like blankets and clothes.
226. Barbie Fashions
I believe in following your kid’s interests. So when my kid expressed interest in dresses, we made a simple dress for her Barbie.
227. Beach Time
Kids (and adults) love the beach. Sand castles, seashell hunts and playing in the water; there’s so much to do. Turn it into a STEM activity by observing high and low tides and figuring out why the water is the color it is.
228. Climbing Structure
When your kid is playing, you can help to point out interesting geometrical structures too. You can point out how shapes can combine together to build larger stable structures. Even better, challenge them to build a miniature one themselves to work out how to create stable structures!
229. Foil Balloon Art
Let your kids decorate their own foil balloons. Great for parties where kids can personalize their own balloons.
230. Indoor Play
Indoor playgrounds are super fun. Make it into a fun STEM activity by asking them to point out shapes, count out objects or name colors etc.
231. Scale Models
Scale models take a lot of work but are great for conveying design ideas. They are normally made out of blocks, paper and wood. If your kid is into architectural design, he or she may be interested in making something like this.
232. PODS
We watched a PODS employee use mechanical engineering to single-handedly move a 16 feet PODS container onto a truck.
233. Popsicle Molds
Making your own homemade popsicles
is a healthy and fun kid activity. We made ours out of yogurt, healthy fruit and some lemon juice.
234. Star Chart
We really believe in the importance of encouraging kids to contribute to household responsibilities. This Star/Responsibility Chart has worked really well for us.
235. The Wedge
We spotted the wedge concept on display at a museum, demonstrating how simple machines work.
236. Music Science
This display shows how different lengths of string changes tones. You can use a guitar to demonstrate this to your kid too.
237. Water Bottle Sticker Art
My toddler surprised me with this creative decor on her water bottle using stickers. Stickers are a cheap but effective craft material that a lot of kids love.
238. Water Flows
This water flow display keeps kids interested for a long time. You can also make a simpler version at home.
239. Wheel Science
A display to show the difference the size of a wheel makes to the resulting force. The bigger the wheel, the more leverage you get when turning it. If turning in opposite directions, the person turning the bigger wheel has an upper hand compared to the person turning the smaller wheel.
